ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47) -- Wednesday was pizza pick up day for the Rochester Youth Hockey Association, but for the first time, they were also able to drop off 1700 pizzas at the Channel One Food Bank.
More than 400 families picked up pizzas from the Club's Choice fundraiser from Graham Arena, but this year hockey players had the opportunity to sell pizzas to donate.
The Hockey Association more than quadrupled their goal for donated pizzas and dropped the palates of frozen pizzas at the Channel One Food Bank this afternoon.
The food shelf sees 35 hundred families a month, and if we have 17 hundred pizzas just today, that means that at least half those families get to take home and have a pizza," said Janelle Rosin, the coordinator of the pizza fundraiser.
Food shelf officials say this donation comes at a good time because this is a typically low point in the year for donations.
