Rochester Public Transit routes to change Sunday
ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – Rochester Public Transit routes will be changing Sunday.
It’s all part of a plan to enhance and increase service. Existing route times will be changing and six routes have been added.
“An important thing about this change is that we’re increasing the frequency of trips in many cases,” Nick Lemmer with RPT said. “I just spoke to a person on the phone this morning who’s going from service every hour in their neighborhood, to service every 30 minutes.”
Lemmer said the pandemic hurt their operations, but now, they are rebounding. He said the goal is near pre-pandemic ridership.
He said the routes are consistently busy. RPT has a fleet of about 70 buses, and 50 are out on the roads during peak times everyday.
“These buses that you see here will be on the roads with a total of 15% increase in the number of service hours,” he said. “More than there were prior to this change.”
Service to subdivisions in the Century Hills area and Hart Farms will also start.
Officials urge riders to check its website before they catch their bus next week.
