A 12-year-old girl claims she was almost abducted at the Freeborn County Fair Saturday night.
Freeborn County Sheriff Kurt Freitag is warning parents about letting their children interact with strangers.
What was supposed to be a fun night at the Freeborn County Fair, took a scary turn for a 12-year-old girl.
"The only description that we have of the suspect is he's an adult male," said Freitag.
According to Freitag, the girl was walking on the gravel road through the parking lot near the 4H building around 10 Saturday night, when a man grabbed her waist from behind and told her, "keep walking and nobody will get hurt."
The girl started to comply with his demands, until another female saw what was happening and yelled at the man, scaring him away.
"It's very effective for someone who's going to be abducted: don't comply. Scream, yell, kick, fight, whatever you have to do to draw attention or make them feel like this isn't worth it," added Freitag.
Sheriff Freitag says the number of sex offenders in Freeborn County is rising and there's guaranteed to be some at this type of event.
"This is what they want to come to. That's why it's important for parents to teach their kids what's going on around them. Watch people, see who doesn't fit in," continued Freitag.
The girl is okay and so far, police haven't had any similar situations at this year's fair.
