ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47) -

The History Center of Olmsted County has a new exhibit on display that provides some history on the settlement of the state of Minnesota.

The new exhibit is the "Fur Trade in Minnesota," which is a traveling exhibit that goes around the state.

According to the history center, the fur trade played a big role in Minnesota's founding, as fur traders made there way through Canada and eventually into Minnesota in search of Beaver fur.

The history center also makes the exhibit interactive, visitors can take different fur and even get to experience what life was like for fur traders.

"We have a fox pelt that kids can actually come and feel what fox fur feels like and these would be used to make different clothing shalls for women, coats and jackets. Up until about the 1840s, when the market kind of crashed, because the fashion changed and the beaver species, especially in Minnesota and in other areas, decline rapidly, because of all the trapping," said Daniel Nowakowski, the Exhibit Curator.

The fur trade exhibit will on display through September 26th.
