ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47) -

Starbucks is making national headlines after announcing it will stop using plastic straws and instead use paper straws, in an effort to be environmentally conscious.

Meanwhile, some Rochester restaurants have already made the change.

Bleu Duck Kitchen started using paper straws rather than plastic about six months ago.

It was also an effort to be more eco-friendly.

Bleu Duck's Co-Owner, owner Jennifer Becker, says even buying in bulk, each paper straw is a few cents more expensive than plastic.

"There wasn't anything that came down on us like we need to switch immediately," she said. "It was just a decision that we made as a team. Knowing that we support local and provide good products for our people, so if you can display that 100 percent on your cocktail list and your food as well, it just balances out."

The Loop and Tonic Juice Bar are among other Rochester restaurants that use paper straws.

Nationally, McDonald's and American Airlines are also looking into switching to paper straws.
