The Community Rec Center in Austin just got a generous financial boost. An Austin-based pharmaceutical company announced a $500,000 donation for the construction of the rec center. The donation made by Astrup Companies is contributing to the facility reaching its five-million-dollar public fundraising goal. The Astrup representatives say the company supports entities that encourage healthy lifestyles, so it made sense for them to donate money to the Austin Rec Center.
Sterling Pharmacies leaders say a rec center that encourages healthy living is a good thing. The Astrup family also operates including Sterling Drug in Austin.
"We're strong supporters of the community," says Sterling Pharmacies President Sam Ewing, "We believe strongly in promoting activities that support a healthy lifestyle. And so, it seemed like a good choice to donate a half a million dollars to the Austin Rec Center, which is a project that's going to benefit obviously the entire community."
Company leaders say the pharmacy exists to promote and support clients. Everything done by the pharmacy is done to keep patients healthy, so playing a role in patients' health is important.
