Argument at party leads to machete assault

ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47) -

A Rochester man was arrested after after an argument at a party turned into an assault involving a machete.

Police say 19-year-old Shamar Blunt of St. Charles was taken into custody late Friday afternoon.

Officers say Blunt slashed the chest of a 24-year-old man after the argument broke out on the 2100 block of 48th Street Northwest. 

Several people then struggled for control of the weapon. 

Police say the victim also sustained a "defensive wound" to the hand when trying to wrestle away the machete. 

Blunt then left the machete in the driveway and fled with a woman. The victim was treated for minor injuries at Mayo Clinic- Saint Marys. 

Police were interviewing the victim when Blunt arrived at the emergency room for an injury to his hand.

Blunt was arrested shortly afterward.
