It's May, which means the Rochester Farmer's Market is open. The Farmer's Market on 4th Street Southeast is now open every Saturday until the last week of October.
The market is open year-round, but they've recently moved from their winter home at the Olmsted County Fairgrounds. Their downtown location is the market's summer home. Organizers say the market will be open come rain or shine, and money spent has a big impact on Rochester's economy.
"We think it's a market for everyone," says Farmer's Market Manager Jessica Joyce, "It belongs to the community and to the farmers who bring their wares out here. There are over 100 vendors in our market system. There are usually 60 to 65 different vendors here every day. And it's a place where you can come and shop for your groceries for the week, you can plant your garden, you can just ride your bike to the market and come and hang out. And we added a good number of new concession vendors this year, so people can just come out and have lunch. And so we think it's just a great family activity."
Vendors report what they bring in and organizers say over one-million-dollars was spent last year at the market.
