A teacher at Howard-Winneshiek Community Schools in Cresco has been charged with a sex crime involving a student.
Tiffany Ranweiler-Oblander, 29, taught at Charles City Middle School for a year before taking the job in Cresco this school year.
The Decorah woman is facing a charge of Sexual Exploitation by a Counselor or School Employee for allegedly engaging in sexual contact with an 18-year-old student. Investigators say it happened on "numerous occasions" during the 2018 school year but Sheriff Mike Minor said the encounters did not happen on school property.
Howard-Winnesheik Superintendent Ted Ihns said Ranweiler-Oblander has been put on administrative leave and has been banned from the school grounds.
"While we cannot share any further information at this time due to privacy concerns, we will continue to update our school community as we are able in the coming days," said Ihns.
Bond for Ranweiler-Oblander has been set at $5,000 in cash. A judge has issued a no-contact order between the teacher and the student.
