Secretary of State nominee Mike Pompeo pushed ahead with Senate Foreign Relations Committee approval.
The Secretary of State nominee was expected to receive a rare rebuke from a Senate Committee Monday, but thanks in part to a bipartisan move by Democratic Senator Chris Coons, Pompeo passed on a positive note.
Had Senator Coons voted "no," Pompeo would have been the first Secretary of State nominee to not get the nod from the Foreign Relations Committee.
Up next for Pompeo, a vote in the full Senate later this week.
The White House issued a statement applauding the Pompeo vote, saying the Secretary-designate is "an integral part of the President's vision going forward."
