Cresco Gets Important Visit From Governor

CRESCO, Iowa (FOX 47) -

Cresco, Iowa was established as the corporate headquarters of Featherlite in 1993.  The trailer manufacturer produces a big selection of horse, livestock, cargo and other trailers.  The business captured the attention of Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds, who included the facility Friday on a tour she's taking of the state.

"We're doing good in the state of Iowa," the governor says, "Our economy is growing and really if I can help get Featherlite and businesses all across this state people and the skills that they are looking for, we will see our economy continue to grow and expand.  And it's just, we have so much capacity and so much opportunity for Iowans."

The Governor's visit was well-received by Featherlite leaders, who say it shows the success of their business.

"Business has been extremely strong, we've got a large backorder of orders we've got to get produced and the company is growing," explains Featherlite VP Justin Queensland,  "We've got 200 dealers nationwide.  The brands are desired, but we do more than just sell horse and livestock trailers as the governor mentioned.  We do a lot of specialized trailers for companies such as the Billy Graham Foundation and disaster relief stuff."

The governor's visit also had employees talking about how it might help promote the Featherlite name.

"Well, our trailers go nationwide and global," explains Featherlite employee Larry Hageman, "So we are well-known around as Featherlite Trailers, but most people don't know where they're built."

Reynolds says a common theme she's heard from business owners as she tours the state is they're all on the lookout for a skilled workforce.  She also says taking a tour like this helps her say thanks to job creators for hiring Iowans and keeping talent in the Hawkeye state.
