Churches and school deemed safe after bomb threat

Posted: Updated:

Police responded to a suspicious man in a vehicle inside the Generose parking ramp at Saint Marys Hospital. It was soon determined that he was suicidal, with the barrel of a rifle pointed at his head.

After the 19-year-old was talked out of the vehicle, the weapon was determined to be a BB gun, but there was much more police work to be done after that.

The man admitted to planting various items around town, with spray painted messages on sidewalks claiming them to be bombs or other harmful devices.

Those targets included Century High school, Oak Hills Wesleyan Church, and Calvary Evangelical Free Church.

At Door 6 at Calvary, police say a note was taped to the door that read quote "Poison inside, inhalation will kill you, call 911" end quote.

Police sent bomb dogs and hazmat teams to determine that the areas were safe.

There was also a white powdery substance found at Calvary that has been determined to not be hazardous.

When family pastor, Brian Martin arrived at the church Monday morning around 6:30, both driveways were sealed with crime tape. He learned what happened from an officer at the scene.

He says police gave him the "all clear" that everything was alright about 2 hours later.
