16th annual "A Chair Affair" raises money for Rochester Boys and Girls Club
ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47) -
Dozens of unique chairs took center stage at Saturday night's 16th annual "A Chair Affair" gala benefiting the Boys and Girls Club of Rochester.
All of the chairs at the gala are donated by local artisans and were auctioned off for hundreds, and even thousands of dollars.
Heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield also met with guests and gave a speech about how he got his start in boxing as a child at his local Boys and Girls Club.
Organizers for "A Chair Affair" were pleased with the turnout despite the hazardous winter weather.
"We were hoping for about 680 guests was our goal," said Randy Brock, Chair Affair Co-Chair. "We had that many but the weather might have kept a few people at home. This is a huge event for the Rochester Boys and Girls Club and this event raises about a quarter to a fifth of our operating budget for an entire year."
Event organizers are still waiting for official numbers but they estimate they raised more than $360,000.
FOX 47 was proud to be a sponsor of the Chair Affair.
FOX 47's Erin O'Brien served as one of the night's emcees.
