Sheriff's Office: Thousands of dollars of damage caused after truck collides with train

Thousands of dollars of damage is caused after a truck collided with a train.

The accident happened around 2 p.m. Wednesday on 265th Avenue near Highway 24 near Fort Atkinson, Iowa. According to the Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office, 30-year-old Darren Kriener, of Marion, Iowa, was driving a 2004 Chevy Tahoe north on Highway 24, when he made a left turn onto 265th Avenue.

At that time, three Canadian Pacific engines from Mason City, Iowa, were heading southwest.

The sheriff's office said Kriener did not see the train until he collided with the first engine. Emergency crews said there were no injuries.

A total of $9,500 of total property damage was done.
