Austin High School is getting some new additions.
A partnership between AHS and the MacPhail Center for Music is allowing the school to create a new building and make renovations. The project getting support from the Hormel Foundation is going to add alterations to the Austin High School Annex building. AHS officials say new opportunities will be offered to the community through this addition.
The new space will include facilities for band, orchestra and choir as well as a music library and practice rooms. The project includes a 13-thousand-square-foot second floor addition and 17-thousand-square feet of changes to the Annex building. It will be financed in part by AHS, but the Hormel Foundation is also committing significant funds and the project's cost is estimated at 11-thousand-dollars.
Renovations of the existing annex are slated to begin in February of 2019. The second floor is expected to begin in the spring of next year.
