There's about to be a vacancy in the Minnesota State Supreme Court.
The U.S. Senate voted today (56-42) to confirm Minnesota Associate Justice David R. Stras to the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Former governor Tim Pawlenty appointed Stras to the state's high court in July of 2010. Stras was a faculty member at the University of Minnesota Law School before that.
Governor Mark Dayton reacted in a statement today. “I congratulate Justice Stras, and thank him for his service to the people of Minnesota on our state’s highest Court,” said Governor Dayton. “I will ask members of the Commission on Judicial Selection to begin their consideration of applicants to fill that vacancy.”
The application process is now open for the associate justice vacancy.
Application materials are due by the close of business on Tuesday, February 27, 2018. The Commission will conduct interviews on Friday, March 16, 2018.
