January is National Blood Donor Month, and the Red Cross in southeast Minnesota has an urgent need for blood donors.
The local Red Cross says Thursday's inclement weather didn't lead to the cancellations of any blood drives in the area, but it may have led to lower turnout among donors.
It's already issued an appeal for more donations due to a shortage.
When the weather is rough, accidents still happen and emergency rooms need blood products to be available.
The Red Cross says they understand if people don't feel like going out when roads are slick and icy, but they say they need as many blood donations whenever possible.
The Red Cross says even donations given today aren't immediately available for blood banks.
That blood still needs safety testing before being used for patients.
