Hunters from as far away as the St. Cloud area have ventured down to southern Minnesota to help try to slow the spread of the disease.
"This Chronic Wasting affects deer herd populations and it gets in the soil and spreads through pretty much natural fluids, urine, feces and saliva. And when it gets out of control the only way to eradicate it is to wipe out the whole population, and the DNR is trying to avoid such drastic measures," said hunter, Jason Lesinski.
The hunt is open to residents and non-residents with no bag limit and hunters can use any unfilled 2017 license or buy disease management tags for $2.50 until January 14th.
