Southeast Minnesota's blast of cold air Tuesday morning, combined with wind and fresh snow, made for a very slippery commute and some early morning crashes.
The first accident took place on Highway 52, near Oronoco.
Authorities said a northbound semi truck jackknifed around 3:30 a.m. The accident shut down the left lane of Highway 52 north, while responders and tow operators worked to clear the scene.
A second crash, also on Highway 52, took place around 6 a.m. near the 65th Street Northwest exit in Rochester.
State Patrol said the accident involved two vehicles, a pickup truck and a sedan. The accident shut down at least two lanes for commuters.
The State Patrol and the Rochester Fire Department set up a perimeter around the wreckage as they waited for an ambulance to arrive.
