Downtown Rochester is one step closer to getting a new ice cream and candy store.
In September we told you about the Rochester Boys and Girls Club's fundraising efforts to start up a store called The Chocolate Twist in the historic Paines building.
Profits from the store will go right back to the Boys and Girls Club's programming.
Teenagers from the club will work at the store, doing and learning more than just scooping ice cream.
Some of their responsibilities will include managing the books, curating the flavors, interacting with customers, and working with computers.
After several months of online fundraising to launch the store, the organization has surpassed its goal of $25,000 and raised $29,500.
"Through the Kickstarter campaign there were mostly individuals giving anywhere from $10 to $5000 so we saw the whole range. The messages of support we got when we got the donations were really heartwarming."
The Boys and Girls Club is also working to hire a store manager to work with the kids.
Organizers are hoping to open The Chocolate Twist sometime soon after the new year depending on how quickly inspections are completed.
