DODGE CENTER, Minn. (FOX 47) -

People in Dodge Center took a step back in time--100 years to be exact-- to learn more about World War 1.

The Dodge County Historical Society and the Dodge Center Public Library hosted a WWI Cemetery Tour and Remembrance Sunday at Riverside Cemetery.

This year marks the centennial of American entry into the war.

The American Legion and local boy scouts led a ceremony, then people could go on a self-guided tour to learn more about Dodge County's connections to the war.

The Historical Society says there are 79 world war one veterans buried there.

"So little is known about World War 1 because it was back before our generations that we wanted to update it, and getting the people out here to visit the grave sites of their family members and then stand around and tell the story of what they did during World War 1 and how world war one came about is such a terrible terrible chaos in Europe type of thing," explained Lowell Johnson, a member of the Historical Society.

The historical society also has a special WWI exhibit at the Dodge County museum in Mantorville.
