Stewartville R.E.A.C.H. program looking for donations

Posted: Updated:

A program in the Stewartville school district is hoping to help students begin the school year on the right note by collecting donations from the public.

The R.E.A.C.H. program in Stewartville stands for Relationships, Education, Accountability, Character, and Hard Work.

It helps students with their personal and emotional needs so that they can focus on academic success in the classroom.

Right now it's collecting donations of individually wrapped snacks and bottles of water at a donation box inside Fareway Groceries in Stewartville.

The program's director says those donations will go a long way in the life of a student.

"They may have had a rough time at home, maybe on the bus things didn't go well, they got to school and they're not so happy to be there and they just need a place to sit down and kind of chill before class gets started," said Jim Parry, the program's director. "We have a lot of that that happens. Growing up today is not easy and one of our goals in REACH is to try to make things a little bit more bearable to make the school day go by a little more smoothly for anyone who needs it."

The box inside Fareway is only for bottled water and snacks, but The R.E.A.C.H. program also collects donations of clothing, school supplies, and gift cards, directly to the school district.
