Prepare to have your bubble burst! BubbleBall is making soccer even more challenging.
This Saturday people from across southeastern Minnesota will be participating in the first ever 5 versus 5 Bubble Soccer Tournament.
"The amount of laughter," said BubbleBall co-owner, Tori Utley. "I've never been to one of our events and not heard people just constantly laughing. People just love it and it's one of those things where when you're around people and they're laughing and having fun and it's really infectious so it's hard not to have fun too."
The ball is about 15 pounds and it adds an unexpected challenge.
"For the normal athlete, they may assume that they may be good at playing bubble soccer or something like that but what we really love about bubble soccer is it really levels the athletic playing field," said BubbleBall co-owner, Zach Zurn. "You've got to master the orb around you. It's kind of this personal bubble and you run into people when you're not intending to, so it takes a really good athlete and humbles them a little."
The goal of this weekend's tournament is to expose different people to BubbleBall.
"It's a great chance for people to come out and try the enjoyment of BubbleBall without having to commit to a whole booking of an event," said Zurn.
BubbleBall is a local franchise of a national corporation. The national corporation hopes to eventually have a national cup, but right now the Rochester franchise is trying to see if there is interest in creating a league with this double elimination tournament.
"So if somebody loses in their first game they go to a losers bracket and they have their chance to win that losers bracket to make it back to the original bracket," said Zurn.
You have to be 14 or older to play in the tournament on Saturday at 9am at Silver Lake Soccer Field.
There are still team spots available.
The cost for a team of at least 5 is $125.
If you don't have 5 people, don't worry, BubbleBall may be able to put you on a team.
