The Winona County Sheriff's Department and the Animal Humane Society worked together to seize a herd of dairy cattle in the Utica area Wednesday.
Winona County Sheriff Ron Ganrude said more than 50 animals were found in inhumane conditions, suffering from "gross malnourishment and neglect".
The cows, yearlings, calves and a bull were taken from the farmer and moved to a holding facility where they are being evaluated.
Criminal charges may be filed.
The name of the farmer is being withheld, pending those possible charges.
