WINONA, Minn. (FOX 47) -- Ground is being broken Friday on the new Winona bridge project.
Construction on the Highway 43 bridge over the Mississippi River was supposed to start last month, but was delayed due to high water and dangerous currents.
Sen. Amy Klobuchar and Congressman Tim Walz will help break ground on the $160 million project. Plans call for construction of a new permanent bridge built next to the existing one, while crews rehabilitate the current bridge.
MnDOT hopes to have all work wrapped up by late 2019 or early 2020.
The groundbreaking ceremony gets underway at 11 a.m. at Winona's AmericInn.
