3 charged in connection with Waseca teen accused of massacre plot

WASECA, Minn. (FOX 47) – Three more people have been charged in connection with the case of a Waseca teen accused of plotting a murderous rampage on his family and at his school.

Michael Steven Jacobs, 40, is charged with illegally selling a handgun to 17-year-old John LaDue who's accused of plotting to kill his family and students at Waseca Junior and Senior High School. Jacobs admitted to investigators he sold a handgun and magazine to LaDue in the fall of 2013 for $350. Waseca police said Jacobs did not alert law enforcement of the sale, which is required by law

Two 17-year-old juveniles were also charged. One of the juveniles allegedly helped LaDue with making explosive devices at a home in Waseca. The two then attempted to set off the devices in a field near Waseca Junior and Senior High School.

The other juvenile allegedly helped LaDue purchase 15 pounds of potassium perchlorate and also gave assistance in building explosive devices.

The juvenile petitions say the two teens were unaware of LaDue's plans for the explosives.

LaDue was arrested in April after authorities said they found him in a storage locker with bomb-making materials. They also found guns, explosives and a journal outlining his plans.
