Homemade explosives found on Waseca playground

WASECA, Minn. (FOX 47) -- Waseca Police say that melting snow has revealed three small handmade explosives on an elementary school playground.

Police were called this week to Hartley Elementary School, where police say they found three small compressed air cartridges similar to those used in a BB or pellet gun.
One of them had been detonated inside a stuffed toy, one was detonated by a bomb squad, and a third failed to ignite.
Based on their appearance, police suspect they had been on the playground for weeks or months.
Police say they don't believe students were ever in danger, and it's safe for them to return to school Monday.
