WABASHA, Minn. (FOX 47) -- Authorities said the body of a missing person they were searching for in the Mississippi River in Wabasha has been recovered.
According to the Wabasha County Sheriff's Office, the body of a 49-year-old woman was discovered at about 3 p.m. by a diver with the Winona County Dive Rescue Team.
The victim is believed to have gone through the ice on the Mississippi River near Bailey Avenue and Lawrence Boulevard in Wabasha.
Wabasha Police Chief Jim Warren said the search took place just south of the National Eagle Center. Rescue crews followed footprints that led from the shore about 40 yards out on the ice.
Wabasha police and the Wabasha County Sheriff's Office responded at about 8 a.m.
According to authorities, the name and identity of the victim will be released Friday morning, pending notification of family.
