Gas leak in Rochester forces homes to evacuate

ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47) -- A natural gas leak in southwest Rochester prompted the evacuation of several homes Monday morning.

It happened just before 8 a.m. on West Center Street Southwest.

Minnesota Energy responded after a homeowner reported the leak.

Due to high levels of natural gas in the home, the Rochester Fire Department evacuated the house and two neighboring homes as well.

Gas was shut off, the home was ventilated, and the homeowner was eventually able to return.

The Rochester Fire Department says the leak was found to be the result of a faulty gas line to a stove.
