On thin ice: Man unhurt after car ends up on Silver Lake

ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47) -- A wild ride left an alleged drunk driver on the ice of Silver Lake in Rochester early Friday morning.

Rochester police say they received a call for help from 25-year-old Tyler Heimsness at about 3 a.m. Friday. Heimsness told officers he was sitting in his car on Silver Lake and needed assistance.

Police say Heimsness wasn't hurt, but had smashed into a power pole on the 1200 block of Silver Lake Drive before sliding out onto the ice. The ice was thick enough to prevent the car from breaking through, police said.

The car was towed and Heimsness now faces a misdemeanor DUI charge.
