ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47) -- Rochester police are asking for your help in an investigation with a convicted sex offender from Texas who is being extradited back to Minnesota after allegedly committing criminal sexual conduct with a Rochester teenager.
Police say Jonathan Perez, 30, pretended to be 17 when he met a 13-year-old from Rochester in an online chat room.
Over the course of several months, Perez sent the teen gifts and letters, and eventually traveled to Rochester where they allegedly had sexual relations.
Parents called police after discovering the relationship, but Perez had already returned to Texas. Rochester police worked with the El Paso Police Department and other law enforcement agencies in Texas, which resulted in Perez's arrest.
Police believe Perez was likely in Rochester from Dec. 11th to Jan. 7th and may have spent some time at the Dorothy Day House.
Anyone who may have interacted with him is urged to call Rochester police at 507-328-6800.
Police say Perez will soon be extradited back to Rochester.
