Prayer service held for Winona crash victims

WINONA, Minn. (FOX 47) -- A search for a fourth victim presumed drowned when an SUV plunged into the Mississippi River is resuming in Winona County Tuesday.

As search crews continued to press on through dusk, a prayer service to remember those lives lost was held just yards away from the site of the crash.

More than 100 family members, friends, and community leaders gathered to join in prayer at AmericInn in Winona Tuesday afternoon.

Various scripture verses were read while attendees held hands and mourned together.

Winona County Sheriff Dave Brand said the tragic event has truly been a shock to the community.

"It's always a very serious tragedy when you lose a loved one. We ask that everyone say their prayers tonight so that we can give closure to the people that mourn and to the families involved," said Brand.

Following the service, some attendees gathered outside together to look over the spot in the Mississippi River where the SUV carrying those four individuals crashed.
