NEAR STEWARTVILLE, Minn. (FOX 47) -- The Olmsted County Board is considering an expansion of Root River Regional Park near Stewartville.
Joe Chase lives on the 9000 block of County Road 1 Southeast. He received a map in the mail from Olmsted County Parks earlier this month showing a proposal to expand the park and acquire area properties.
Chase said his family has lived on the property for six generations and is against the proposed expansion.
"Every acre is sacred and full of tradition and full of memory," Chase said. "For myself, I'm one of the standard bearers, the fifth standard bearer of my family heritage from Matthew Fugle who built the mill across the road."
Olmsted County Parks is still in the early stages of mapping the park expansion and no official plans have been made.
A public meeting will take place Nov. 4 at 6 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Town Hall.
