Remembering Christian, Yang family gives life to others

ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47) -- A local family is remembering Wednesday the life of an 8-year-old boy who passed away over the weekend after suffering from a brain aneurysm on Friday.

The Yang family is honoring the life of their son and brother, Christian, by giving life to others even in his death.

Christian passed away on Sunday after his family kept him on life support for two days, in order to donate his organs, including his liver, kidneys, heart valves and spleen, and save the lives of five people.

Most families are fortunate enough never to be in need of a transplant, but this selfless act can have a life changing impact on recipients such as Doug Matzke.

"It's not just, I take care of the heart, the heart takes care of me, and somebody was kind enough to give that, give that gift to me," Matzke said. "Otherwise, I would not be here."

The fundraiser for Christian is on and has a goal of reaching $10,000 for his funeral costs.

Christian was in the third grade at Sunset Terrace Elementary.
