PRESTON, Minn. (FOX 47) -- We now know when construction will get underway on the new state veterans cemetery in Preston. The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs made the announcement Tuesday.
Officials say they will break ground on the site at a ceremony November 8th at 11 a.m.
The announcement comes a couple weeks after Fillmore County officially transferred ownership of the land to the state.
In late September, $10-million dollars was awarded to cover the entire cost of the cemetery.
Earlier this month, we visited the veterans cemetery site, where we spoke with representative Greg Davids. He said its been a long struggle getting approval for construction, but said it's necessary to help and celebrate our veterans.
The only other state veterans cemetery is in Little Falls-- nearly 200 miles away.
Officials say construction on the 167 acres of land in Preston should be complete by 2015.
