ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47) -- Hundreds of local elementary students are skipping the bus or carpool Wednesday and walking and biking to class instead.
Wednesday is International Walk To School Day and twenty Olmsted County Elementary Schools are joining the fun.
Parents, teachers and high school mascots will assist students as they stroll and roll their way to class.
RCTC football players will walk with kids from Gage and Washington Elementary, and Rochester Mayor Brede will join students from Pinewood Elementary.
The event runs from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. and raises awareness for the need to create safer routes for kids to walk and bike in the community.
