ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47) -- The new People's Food Co-op opened for business in downtown Rochester Tuesday morning.
Store officials said the opening at the corner of 1st Avenue and 6th Street Southwest comes after about two years of planning and a major merger between the Good Food Store in Rochester and People's Co-op of La Crosse.
Store manager Lizzy Haywood said that many people value the fact that the food sold at their store comes directly from local and regional sources, and that it's food made from real products.
"The gathering is about the food and it's what brings people
together...it ties communities together over the rituals and Co-ops are
part of that. Co-ops are part of the ritual," Haywood said.
Haywood also said with the ever-changing planting seasons we experience here in Minnesota, the store is a place farmers know they can turn to whenever they're able to get crops harvested.
