ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47) -- Tuesday may be the day after the Labor Day holiday, but to some parents it feels more like a holiday-- the first day of school!
And kids throughout southeastern Minnesota had to hop out of bed extra early to meet the bus for the first day of the 2013 school year.
In the Rochester district, school superintendent Michael Muñoz will be visiting several schools today to welcome kids back as part of annual tradition.
This year district's pre-kindergarten through 12th grade serves more than 16,000 students in 16 elementary schools, four middle schools, and three comprehensive high schools.
The district also offers various alternative schools and five choice programs.
This year there will also be some fresh faces this year, as district officials report about 170 new teachers.
