ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47) -- Fargo-based PLC, Inc. has acquired the building permit necessary for the construction of a La Quinta Inn and Suites in the Shoppes on Main Development.
Charles Hayes, owner of PLC, Inc., said it's the fifth hotel for his company will own. Hayes said it was a visit to Mayo Clinic in 2004 that convinced him Rochester was the city for his new project.
"I think it continues to reflect this tremendous environment that we have here," said John Wade, Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce President. "This very special environment where, in this case, a former patient decided because of the care he received here, he decided to invest here."
Construction on the project began in June after the city approved the nearly $5 million building permit. The new structure will be four stories and add 83 rooms to the hotel scene in Rochester.
"I think it would be another aspect of allowing people to enjoy another hotel in the area, that is a good access to the facilities," said Michele Butcko, a visitor from Ann Arbor, Mich.
According to the owner, the hotel will be open for business by next February or March.
