Owners begin clean up after fire consumes warehouse

HOLLANDALE, Minn. (FOX 47) -- On Monday, a fire broke out where Jones Auto Sales housed many antique cars and other collectibles in Hollandale.

Hollandale volunteer firefighters along with teams from Albert Lea, Austin, Clarks Grove and other departments battled the blaze.  At one point, crews had to truck in water from other communities after the water supply in Hollandale's water tower ran low.  But their efforts were futile as the fire raged through the night.

"I had a lot of history in there and every time anyone came over it was like a little museum. Everybody marveled and said, 'God, I can remember this when I was young, I can remember that. Now, it's all gone," said Irene Jones, co-owner of Jones Auto Sales.

The Jones' used the warehouse to store antique cars, including Model A's and Model T's, stoves, refrigerators and other collectibles.

Irene and her husband have been collecting all they had stored in the shed for more than 40 years.  They had planned on giving their most prized possessions to their son one day.

"I told my son, 'what are you going to do with all the stuff we collected -- 'I hope you don't have an auction, that I hope you will cherish what we've collected,'" Jones said.  "He said, 'You don't have to worry about it now, Mom.'"

The cause of the fire is still unknown and there are no estimates on the cost of the damage.
