AUSTIN, Minn. (FOX 47) -- After three years of service to the Austin community, Fire Chief Mickey Healey is stepping down to pursue other endeavors.
Chief Healey is originally from Michigan but for the past few years has served as Austin's fire chief. In less than a month he will move to a fire department just outside of Houston, Texas.
Healey said it is bittersweet because he has enjoyed working in Austin. Chief Healey will be reunited with a former co-worker and that played a huge role in his decision to leave. He will also be heading back on the front lines.
"Allowing me to go back in an engine and get back to the first line of defense on the streets and active with the community -- it's a little bit more in the area that I'm most passionate for," Healey said.
Chief Healey's last day with the Austin Fire Department is June 5.
