Judge hears arguments in bus company lawsuit

ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47) -- A legal battle between Rochester City Lines and the city of Rochester is being fought in Olmsted County District Court.

RCL filed a lawsuit in Feb. 2012 against the city. On Thursday, the judge heard more arguments.

Judge Joseph Chase said he is taking the arguments under advisement and will make a decision by June 19.

The lawsuit came after the Federal Transit Administration said Rochester's 46-year-old relationship with RCL wasn't fair and competitive.

Bids were taken for the city's transportation franchise. A different company won and took over the entire system that RCL had created.

RCL general manager Dan Holter filed the lawsuit to claim ownership of the city's transit system, but the city of Rochester said it was the owner.

In July 2012, RCL suspended its transit operations because the company said it couldn't compete with the new operator of the city-wide system, Rochester Public Transit.
