ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47) -- Spring is officially here, but as we all know it feels nothing like it. As we get ready close out March and jump into Spring, many of us still have the winter blues.
When you think of Spring, you think of green, but all around us there is white. Even though it was bitterly cold on this first day of Spring, we know that there has to be warmer days ahead.
The first day of Spring.
"We shouldn't be sledding at the end of March," said Arlo Kroening of Roscoe's Barbeque.
Looks anything but.
"Last year we had lines to the sidewalk for lunch, it was 70 to 80 degrees," said Kroening.
This year though, the outdoor tables at Roscoe's BBQ stand remain idle waiting for the warmer days and the people to sit on them.
"Tables at this time would be set up and full of people eating, hopefully it will come around here soon," said Kroening
Once the temps get to about 40 degrees the tables will be brushed off and the people will come, but until then they are waiting to say goodbye to a winter that doesn't want to leave.
Last year on the first day of Spring we had to worry about the ice in the cone melting. This year on the first day of Spring we have ice everywhere else. That includes golf courses as the greens are still covered in white and golfers everywhere are just anxious to get out and enjoy Spring whenever it eventually shows up.
"A year ago tomorrow, we were officially open for the golf season, whereas for tomorrow we have no idea when we will be opening the golf course," said Jeff Fjosne of Rochester Golf & Country Club.
And that has everybody that is anxiously awaiting golf weather a little frustrated.
"This point usually we're starting to get back out on the course, doing some clean up work from the winter that was," said Fjosne.
But the winter that was is still the winter that is
"The switch was flipped and now we're to January conditions in March," said Fjosne
And for that we make up our own words. Marchuary, said Kroening.
For those of you that aren't familiar with Roscoe's, their seating is outdoors. So for the time being they have a room with heat to accommodate their customers. Despite the cold though, they are open for business.
