ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47)- After pleading guilty to the murder of David Beister last spring, Anthony Jones will now serve just under 24 years in prison.
The sentence came down in Olmsted County District Court Friday just after 2:00 PM. Jones pled guilty to 3rd degree assault and 2nd degree murder. This all comes after Beister's body was found at Quarry Hill Park last April with blunt-force trauma to his head.
According to the criminal complaint, Beister's death stemmed from an argument over a drug deal gone bad.
The original charge was 1st degree murder, but both sides negotiated down to the 2nd degree murder charge and the 270 month sentence. He will also serve 15 extra months in prison for a previous charge of domestic assault.
We'll have video of how the decision was handed down, tonight on NewsCenter at 5 and 6.
