Fire destroys Dover home

DOVER, Minn. (FOX 47) -- A Dover home is believed to be a total loss after a fire breaks out in the basement.

The call came in just after 5 p.m. Tuesday.  A neighbor called 9-1-1 after noticing smoke coming from vents on the home at the intersection of 3rd Avenue and 2nd Street Northeast.

Once Dover and Eyota fire crews arrived, they were able to knock the flames down within fifteen minutes.  The cause of the fire is under investigation but officials believe it originated from the area of a wood stove in the basement.

"The house is fairly old," said Eyota fireman Ryan Pike.  "The basement is pretty much a square old-style basement... unfinished. It's pretty charred. Pretty smoke-filled. From what I can see the house is a total loss."

"There wasn't any homeowners in there or any pets or anything," said the neighbor, Dalton MacDonald.  "The homeowners were both at work and they came home at 6 o'clock... normally. We seen them here a little after six and they found out there house was on fire."

The homeowner is staying with family.  No injuries were reported.
