
ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47) -- A 15-year-old boy helped his siblings escape an apartment fire safely in southeast Rochester.
The fire broke out just before 7 a.m. Tuesday at the Bear Creek Apartment complex at 1405 Marion Rd. S.E.
Neighbors provided shelter to the children until their mother could return from work.
"There was four kids in the house, mom was at work," said Rochester Fire Department Battalion Chief Eric Kerska. "The oldest child I believe is 15 years old, he attempted to put the fire out with a sweatshirt, got the kids out and then a neighbor lady came over and grabbed the kids.
The American Red Cross is assisting with finding temporary shelter.
Damage is estimated at $10,000.
