Man sentenced in marijuana case

Stephen Conlin Stephen Conlin

ST. CHARLES, Minn. (FOX 47) -- A former candidate for St. Charles mayor and proponent of legalized marijuana has been sentenced.

In November, a jury found Stephen Conlin guilty of third-degree distribution and fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance.

Stephen Conlin was charged with third-degree distribution and fifth-degree possession.

He had his St. Charles home and business raided twice.

Winona County deputies confiscated 17 pounds of marijuana, 68 plants and a large amount of cash in a 2010 raid.

A raid in early 2012 of his barbershop, "The Buzz," turned up similar findings.

On Wednesday, the judge charged Conlin with controlled substance in the third degree.

"I was concerned that she might execute the mandatory minimum 36 month prison sentence so we're happy that she gave him a chance on probation," said Jim McGeeney, Stephen Conlin's attorney. "She did give him 90 days in jail and fined him $3,000."

Conlin appeared in court again Wednesday afternoon regarding the 2012 raid in which Winona County deputies seized marijuana tax stamps and more marijuana from his property.
