2 arrested in copper theft near Eyota

EYOTA, Minn. (FOX 47) -- Two people are in custody after allegedly stealing more than 150 feet of copper wire from an electric substation.

Michael Thanghe, 33, and Amber Janovski, 24, both of Faribault, were arrested on charges of first-degree damage to property at about 10 p.m. Monday.

Thanghe and Janovski allegedly broke into a substation of People's Cooperative Services at the intersection of Highway 14 and 140th Avenue Southeast. Thanghe and Janovski are accused of stealing $2,000 worth of materials.

When Olmsted County deputies arrived, Thanghe threw a set of bolt cutters and a hacksaw blade into an outhouse and tried to flee.

Deputies are working to recover that evidence.

Thanghe and Janovski have also been identified in similar thefts in Lakeville.
