
ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47) -- A car fire in northwest Rochester became a bigger problem when it was parked inside the homeowner's garage.
Crews were called to the 5700 block of 22nd Avenue Northwest at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Rochester firefighters had to force their entry into the garage to find the fire coming from the car sitting inside. Crews had to cut open the hood of the vehicle in order to extinguish the flames.
The fire expanded and caused heavy burning and smoke damage to the garage as well as smoke damage to the attic an inside the home.
Battalion Chief Erik Propotnik said a search was conducted throughout the home and no one was inside at the time.
The residents were able to get out safely.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. A complete damage estimate is unknown at this time.
