MASON CITY, Iowa (FOX 47) -- A north Iowa boy has pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges that he assaulted and killed his mother in March.
Noah Crooks, 14, is charged with first-degree murder and first-degree assault with the intent to commit sexual abuse.
Noah's mother, Gretchen Crooks, was found shot-to-death at their home this past March.
Two weeks ago it was ruled that Noah would be waived to district court as a youthful offender and not a juvenile.
The move makes it possible to keep him, if convicted, in the court system past the age of 18.
Noah's attorneys have filed their intention to mount an insanity defense. That motion went uncontested by the prosecution during Tuesday's court hearing.
